The intention of stories about Woodgrove and its inhabitants is to nurture—among children and adults alike—non-violent communication based on mutual respect and acceptance of diversity. Such an approach allows us to discover the potential and the inner beauty within our children and within ourselves. These tales do not offer advice. Instead, they invite curiosity about another person—their emotions and needs. There is joy, anger, sadness, gratitude, and many other feelings. Emotions inform us about our needs and about what the characters of the story are experiencing at any given moment. We encourage adult readers to let these tales inspire them to talk with children about what they feel and what is alive in them. This will help you get to know your children better—and yourselves as parents or caretakers. The tales touch on specific themes such as respect, acceptance, sharing, openness… They can serve as a support during a conversation with your children when you encounter difficulties in communication. This challenge can be carried over into the Woodgrove, which in turn can help you and your children talk about what concerns them a little easier.
